I love this title - gotta give a shout out to one of my favorite movies, sports-related or otherwise,
Field of Dreams. If you grew up under a rock and/or like to deprive yourself of great entertainment, there's a part in the movie where Dwier Brown (John Kinsella) says to Kevin Costner (Ray Kinsella), "Is this heaven?". "No, it's Iowa," replies Kevin Costner. Love, love, love that movie. There are countless life lessons to be learned - and an all-star cast. The only downside of the movie is that I get distracted before the end, as I start imagining which players I would want to come play on my Field of Dreams if I had one - and then I miss part of the movie as I think through my all-time favorites. But hey, who really considers it a down-side to spend time allowing your mind wander to Yogi, Mr. October, The Georgia Peach, or The Babe?! Surely not me.
Enough about one of the greatest movies ever made. This post isn't about baseball.
It's about football. And Saturday mornings. And heaven.
I have decided heaven will be required to include the following:
- Staying in my pajamas until at least 10:00, probably closer to noon.
- Delicious leftover Indian food from the night before.
- ESPN College Game Day.
A day that starts this well can't possibly go bad.
The next few lines in the movie are as follows:
Kevin Costner (Ray Kinsella) asks, "Is there a heaven?". Dwier Brown (John Kinsella) replies, "Oh yeah. It's the place where dreams come true". Kevin Costner then turns slightly to look at his sweet wife and daughter playing outside on their porch together. It's a very tender moment as he responds saying, "Maybe this is heaven".
And in this moment in time, perhaps he's right. Happy Saturday all!
