I think all of my blog readers know I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus in December 2002 - yes, 11 years ago. And then in May 2004 I went to my first Hydrocephalus Association conference, where they strongly suggested that anyone with hydrocephalus wear a medical alert bracelet.
I thought about it quite seriously for a few years but I was not in a place emotionally to make that commitment. Then in May 2007 when I was in New York, we wandered into the Tiffany & Co store and the guy told my former spouse and I that they would be releasing a line of medical alert bracelets to help with the growing demand for "upscale jewelry of this type". We watched online for it, but never saw anything of the sort.
And then slowly I had cold feet again, and now in July 2014, I am still sans a medical alert bracelet, despite 5 shunt surgeries. I know, I know...it seems like tempting fate. However, I just can't bring myself to wearing some old clunky thing everyday, and I can't seem to find anything I like enough to commit.
Having said that, given the way in which my last shunt failure occurred, I do see the wisdom, and I think it's finally time to break down and find something (or a handful of somethings) that I can tolerate enough for daily usage.
So, please wish me well, and if you know of any great options, please share. Thus far my Google searching has turned up some decent options, but nothing I would deem can't-live-without. Heaven help me.
