Daddy/Daughter Date

I am clearly behind on blogging....and as pointed out by a friend this week, I have become a blogging dud. It's all due to work - wow, what a crazy few month. Alas, enough excuses.

So to catch up a bit, on Wednesday night I went on a Daddy/Daughter Date (along with our friend Scott) to see one of my lifetime heroes be inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame. It was truly an honor to be there in support of my dear friend Mike Petty, especially with my dad, who is one of Mike's best friends.

Mike has been like a second dad to me for many years and I love him dearly. The first time I was admitted to the hospital for hydrocephalus, I remember Mike coming to see me, bringing flowers, and sit quietly by my side. He is such a calm, sweet person and truly didn't have to say anything because his support was so strong and very profound. I admire and respect Mike very much so it was my pleasure to support him on Wednesday.

I must admit, the night was not without oddities....my dad and Scott came to pick me up and we were one block from my house when we heard a noise and realized a spike had somehow gone through the bottom and sidewall of my dad's back passenger tire (it was crazy-long) so he turned around and slowly made it back to my house. We hopped in my car and took off, driving a little quick since we were already late + the tire set back. We drove about 20 minutes and suddenly about 4 blocks from our destination, my tire light turned on.....I had a flat in my back passenger tire as well!! Needless to say, I was starting to think perhaps we were cursed. Thank heaven for my dad and his skills....and I am now considering buying that Triple A service because even after watching him do it, I can't change a tire alone.....?

Here is Mike receiving the award:
(and his darling daughter Cami was the photographer for the event so that's cool)Mike with all of his invited guests for the event.....
Mike (and his wife Marsha) with all of his reffing buddies....my dad is hiding in the back.
And this is my tire....you can see the screw towards the bottom. What a mess!
There were 8 people inducted into the Hall of Fame that night; they had a variety of speakers/presenters and specifically one guy that was on behalf of the inductees. He said something interesting that I decided to write down....."Example is not the 'main thing' to teaching others - it's the only thing". As I watch my friends with their kids, I think about how true that is, especially in the context of parenting. Telling your children is one thing, exhibiting the behavior is another. Clearly I have no personal experience to draw from, but it was simply an interesting thought from the night.

Needless to say, my tire is now fixed and I enjoyed the night with my dad. :)
