And that number to reach her is....?

I was talking to my grandma's nurse tonight and she told me that my grandma made a few calls today - she recapped the call recipients for me, as my grandma was concerned about calling someone back.

The nurse ended the call list with, "and then she called her mother".

I said that couldn't be possible because her mother passed away in August 2002.

She assured me that she watched her dial a phone number, address the person who answered as "Mother", and then continue on 5-10 minute conversation where she called the person on the other end "Mother" at least a few more times.

Sigh.

I have no idea who it was - God bless the kind person who answered on the other end and allowed her to continue on, likely telling stories about the other people in rehab, her disgust for the food, and recapping her healing process. Bless them for not being rude and simply allowing her to have a special moment imagining she was speaking to her mom again.

At first I thought I would cry because this situation is breaking my heart. Then I must admit the twisted side of me took over and I had to chuckle as I imagined what the phone call was like for the recipient. I asked my grandma about calling her "Mother" and she confirmed it; she's sure she did it.

I couldn't help but wonder if a call like that is long-distance....? ;)
