30 before 30

A dear friend of mine recently sent me a list of things she wanted to accomplish/experience by the time she turns 30. I told her I thought it was a great idea and decided to make my own list, but it's been a few weeks and I am struggling.

There are a hundred things I want to do before I turn 30....and there's no way I can do it all in the next 2 years! So, how to prioritize and narrow to 30 so I have a manageable list size?

Thoughts? What is (or would be if you're over 30) on your "30 by 30" list? What should be on mine? (and no, to my family, this is not your chance to take cheap shots about my perceived or actual flaws) Post or email me suggestions please.

I would love to say, "learn to make my Mom's homemade rolls", but let's face it, that's simply a lost cause. I'm not wasting a slot on my list with something implausible. Likewise, I could say, "clean my desk at work so you can see the top" but that would require me to be caught up and heaven knows that's never going to happen so it's unrealistic.

So many options....so little time....my goal is to have this list final before Thanksgiving....more info to come as it develops....

  1. I'm clearly over 30, so I feel like my advice might be meaningful this time around. I don't think it's only about achieving things before a certain age...but, more about doing as much as you can before you are tied down with husband, baby, etc. If u don't do it by then, chances Are you will never do it BC your priorities change...and its not about you anymore. So...enjoy this time in your life...And I will enjoy living vicariously through you...LOL.

    - take a trip to another country...Mexico and Canada don't count.
    - make out with a foreign man.
    - solo vacation...check that one off!
    - try to attend several major sporting events...Superbowl, World Series, Olympics, etc. I would go on a tour of college football stadiums.
    - do a home switch like in the movie The Holiday...always. wanted to do that.
    - go skinny dipping.

I can think of a million more things. Maybe I should start working on my bucket list. :) You've inspired me!

  2. My list would include alot of traveling. But it's fun to travel with a purpose, like take cooking classes in France or study art history in Italy. Go to Greece (I'm just listing the places I want to go).

    Experience New Year's in NYC
    Train for a marathon
Go back to school (you already did that)

Man... this is alot harder than i thought. Now I'll enjoy putting my own list together:-).

  3. I have a "30 before 30" list! A friend I went to school with had a "30 before 30" bucket list column in the newspaper she writes for in Virginia...she inspired me to write one. I wanted to make if "official" on my birthday, but job circumstances will force me to scale back on the list a bit.
