At the end of April, we decided to spend a weekend hitting up a national park I thought I had not been to and practicing my motorcycle skills. It was absolutely wonderful - I loved the whole experience (although I did realize once we arrived that my family has gone to Capitol Reef before - oops) :)
Since the motorcycle is new to me (but a used bike), I didn't know that the gas indicator light doesn't work....which meant that I ran out of gas just outside of Nephi. That setback of riding on Chad's bike into town, buying a small amount of gas, riding back to my bike, riding back to town to fill gas, we were behind schedule - and didn't make it all the way to our destination. We had to stop in Scipio to see the beloved Petting Zoo. ;)
Once the sun went down, it was SUPER cold and I was very grateful to make it to Salina. We ate at a tiny little Mexican restaurant that was nearby the motel....where we ran into a full restaurant of cowboys who had been surrounded by horses - and suddenly Chad was quite sick! He is terribly allergic to horses so he immediately started having troubles breathing, tons and tons of sneezing/wheezing, and a runny nose. It was so sad. :(
The next morning, here was the sight to welcome us as we came out to load up the bikes again.... Oh, how I love this motorcycling hobby! :)
Here are a few photos along the way of the terrific scenery we saw....
Look at my sexy motorcycling man - best scenery of all!
And then after much riding.....we finally arrived! Welcome to Capitol Reef National Park!
We started riding through the park and went on a few trails - and found some beautiful vistas. It was a Top 20 day in my life - a great day with my darling sweetheart participating in on our favorite activities. We stopped at one hiking trail that took us to Hickman Bridge - it was a short but steep hike that took us to a neat archway-type bridge made of stone by the natural elements.
Along the trail....
And here's when we finally reached the destination - and where Chad was looking at me saying something like, "another picture?". :) Hmm.....
And then me celebrating under the bridge!
On the way back down, we found a handful of little nooks and crannies to climb up and have fun. The red rocks are easy to climb up so we started to goof around as we headed back down the trail.
We saw this phone pole on top of a mountain and couldn't help but wonder how they got a pole and electricity up there. Whose job is that?!
After a great Saturday of riding, we settled in at Torrey (just outside the park) and hit up a local restaurant - Cafe Diablo, which I HIGHLY recommend. We had rattlesnake cakes for appetizers, then Chad had Crown Rack of Glazed Ribs and I had Pecan Chicken for our entrees. All of the food was really amazing, and served in delightful fashion like what is featured in this picture. My dish is closest, Chad's in the background. If you are ever in that area, be sure to stop and dine! (http://www.cafediablo.net/)
Our ride home was relatively uneventful on Sunday, but was nice and warm - and took us through more of Utah's diverse and great scenery. I had such a fantastic time and can't wait until our next trip!
