- You can stay up as late as you want, but who really wants to? You know you'll be tired when you have work in the morning - like my 7:00 a.m. meeting in Provo, so I will be leaving the house at 6:15. Again.
- Summer vacation? Um yes, you might be able to sneak out of your office for 5 days. Not 3 months.
- You are the captain of the food ship so sure you can buy more chips, candy, and junk than your mom would ever tolerate....but your metabolism isn't like being an 11 year old girl who plays all day (again, that pesky work issue) so everything you eat finds a place to adhere itself to your body.
- You don't have a curfew, but you wish you did on the weekends because it would give you a good reason to get in bed at a decent hour. Heaven knows your self-discipline won't - and your mother is no longer going to pace by the front door, compelling you to come home.
- No more allowance....well, unless you're a Hilton or Kardashian or equally obnoxious half-breed.
- You suddenly find yourself repeating those phrases you swore you'd never say. "When I was your age....". "Look how fast s/he is growing!". "Don't take your coat off - we're not staying long". Or a Sowby favorite, "don't complain - no one cares and it's annoying". (okay, truth be told, I am actually a fan of that last one. It was a classic Sowby-ism, although I think this phrase almost single-handedly caused me to earn the 'cold hearted' title.)
Children....enjoy every minute....someday you'll be old. And disgruntled.
Here! Here!
ReplyDeleteI felt like posting very similar sentiments yesterday as I cleaned Elliot's melted and smashed yogurt raisins out of the backseat of my car. Sometimes even motherhood isn't all it's cracked up to be - don't judge! :)
Just wanted to tell you that even though it's been YEARS, I still love you Sare-bear.
You are such a sweetheart - I will always love you Heidi! I am wondering where the days went where our biggest dramas were so trivial and small...as I am pretty sure that's about as much as I can handle. :)
DeleteHope all is well with you and your cute family!
