Catch up on events

Last Sunday was a big day, but I was so consumed with the webcast that I didn't blog about it, so here's my little recap.

It was our big family party for Grandpa Sowb's 75th birthday. I didn't get many pictures so I apologize for the sparse coverage...and if you were there and don't see a picture of yourself, just know that I love you anyway.I made this cake - simple Funfetti mix (because I was being lazy) in 2 8" rounds, a creamy middle (consisting of pudding mix, crushed pineapple, whipping cream, coolwhip), and then whipped cream frosting - with blueberries and extra pineapple creamy mixture to decorate the top. Yummy!Cute Auntie Pam and Uncle TyGrandpa Sowb opening presentsTeek and Jaree....they had a full weekend of showing everyone her new engagement ring!

Sowb's been having so many health issues lately. I won't expand here, but suffice it to say, this has been the source of much sadness for my family and I this week. Things are not going well and I don't see any easy solutions in the future. Watching my grandparents age has provided me a whole new perspective on the phrase "endure to the end".

In the midst of all of the birthday celebration for Sowb and getting ready for the webcast, Stella's birthday was a little low-key. In the past, she and I have our own little dog-party to celebrate her birthday, but not this time. Sorry baby-girl-dog....happy 3rd birthday!
This picture is from her 2nd birthday party, but still just as darling....and heaven knows she hasn't grown up a bit since then. I love the hat. It makes me smile.

It's a wonder that she's still alive today after what happened yesterday. She sleeps on my bed and on Friday night/Saturday morning apparently she couldn't get out of bed to go to the bathroom......so she DID IT IN THE BED where we both slept. WHAT?! I woke up to find she had crawled under the sheets instead so both Stella and I covered in her poop, along with my down comforter and sheets. I didn't notice it at first because I couldn't see her so I was laying in bed reading a book on Saturday morning when I realized it was stinky. When I started searching for the source and realized there was puppy poop on my pajama pants, linens and matted in her hair, I had a major flip out. I'll be totally honest that it was not a petite, lady-like moment.....it was an all-out freak show. Seriously, I slept in puppy fecal matter. Kill me.

After a great deal of scrubbing, a super hot shower for me, bath for Stella, new sheets, and a trip to the dry cleaners to drop off the down comforter, I finally calmed down a bit. It is in moments like this when I'm sure God just shakes his head and mutters, "She's not 'Mother' material" because I know my friends who are already mothers would take this in stride and not melt down like I did.

Stella also had a shining moment yesterday when we went jogging. She decided she was tired at one of the stop lights so she simply laid down and wouldn't get up. When I tried to pull her to stand, she wouldn't get up so I was just dragging her - which was obviously not going to work - so I finished the jog carrying her in my arms. Obviously she's tiny, but carrying her while I was running was not exactly easy. I felt obligated to give her a stern lecture while we (well, I) ran, explaining to her that she's not a real dog, as real dogs don't get carried when they go jogging. Lame little darling dog.

Last night I went to the 25th Anniversary of Heart Transplant Ball at the Little America Hotel. I didn't have anyone to go with me so Dr. Lappe said I could be his (and his wife Alice's) date. So, the three of us went to the ball together and had a great time. They were great dates. :) lol. Dr. Lappe is a great friend from work (he's the head of the cardiovascular clinical program for Intermountain so we interact often) and his wife Alice is a doll. The ball included anyone who has received a heart transplant in Utah during the last 25 years - all 1,066 were invited - although not all could attend (of course). They had pictures of the people that were part of the "zipper club" (people with heart transplants - looking like they have zippers on their chests) and it was cool to see what they had done with their lives after the transplants. Very cool experience.

So that's a LONG recap (sorry) of other things that happened during the last week that I forgot to mention. Happy Sunday!
