Charirty Ride for Nathan

In my previous post, I mentioned we had the opportunity to participate in a charity ride yesterday for a sweet kid who was diagnosed with cancer.  Here's more of his story:

Nathan was just about to start his senior year of high school when he was surfing on a family vacation in California.  He fell and seriously damaged his neck, requiring him to be rushed to the emergency room; they put him in a neck brace and told him he needed to be treated by physicians here in Utah upon his arrival home.

When he received additional scans and medical treatment here, they found a massive tumor aggressively growing around his spinal column that needed to be removed.  Due to infection risks, they could not do the surgery trans-orally, and instead had to go through the back of his neck, which meant he had a very high likelihood of never walking again.

He came through the surgery, physical therapy, and chemotherapy well - spending his entire senior year working hard to keep up and graduate with his class, which he did.  He is now cancer free and attending his first semester of college in 3 weeks.  I would say this story is a total happy ending, except that he will be attending BYU, which means he has accepted a lesser than school for his education, but hey, some people do. :)

Check out the video documenting the ride.  You'll see a hot biker and his gal on the back!
