My plant babies are loving their little pods and getting ready for their big transition to the real world soon. They are growing wild and getting a little rambunctious in the living room - yes, it's probably weird to have them in the living room, but it gets the best sunlight and as a proud plant-mama, they need tlc. This week Stella decided it would be clever to dig in them, which prompted swift and firm spankings.....the overall experience left both Stella and the plant babies displeased. It's been too long since my last garden updates....but I must admit, the garden is looking lack luster so that is the reason for my missing posts. Maybe talking about them will cause them to grow more....? Wishful thinking, but I guess it could happen.

The peony has started to grow, but no signs of flowers yet. It blooms for such a short time - maybe only a few weeks, but they are the most beautiful flowers so I leave it in the garden (although I am always blue when the petals quickly fall off so I try to enjoy every day they bloom).
The forsythia bush has withered to absolutely nothing over the winter....what happened here? This was a thriving, beautiful plant when I was winterizing the yard....and now looks scraggly. I am hoping for a miraculous comeback with some serious fertilizer therapy over the next 8 weeks, although like the peony, forsythia flowers are absolutely gorgeous but super short-lived so this is the best it will get for this year. Next year perhaps....
The red maple elm is slowly showing buds (below). I love this tree for its beautiful leaves, which will be here soon. Can't wait!
The daffodils took a beating this week, as we had rain, snow, and hail (literally) pounding on them. So, they've taken a dive and don't seem to want to pick themselves up. Bummer....but they are still pretty.
The next two pictures show the non-flowering tulips (lame) and the flattened crocus. Similarly to the daffodils, the crocus were smashed in the severe weather this week and they are already super delicate so they're pooped....which is too bad because I think they're such friendly little flowers. They seem to say, "Welcome Spring", but alas, not as much this year.

I forgot to brag about my darling mom for Easter - so I decided to include this with my garden post. She is such a doll; she loves to set her table beautifully for special events so this was her display for Easter (we had a big dinner with my dad's side of the family). How many people match their napkin ties to their roses - or buy organza to run down the table? I love to entertain and dress up my table....and it's no wonder where it comes from!
What a week it has been. I have found myself feeling crushed by the weight of it all. Thank you to everyone who reached out (either directly to me or quietly in your soul) as I was flailing about and trying to get my bearings again. Word would be inadequate in expressing my gratitude so I must simply sum it up by saying thank you - I appreciate it with all of my heart.

This week will be better.

  1. You can do this, Sarah. You are one of the strongest women I know...and you'll come out on the other side THAT much better. I miss you! I still owe you a phone call too.
